Finding Flow

I live in Durham with my 12 year old son, and a Yorkshire Terrier called Bob. When I find time I enjoy blogging (link in image below) around the scientific and relational aspects of reflexology.

Reflexology

Electro-Acupuncture

In addition to maintaining a private practice I have previously provided acupuncture and reflexology for a drug and alcohol service, counselling for a local G.P. practice, and one-to-one non-directive play therapy sessions for emotionally vulnerable infant school children (Place2Be).

Training and Qualifications

As a counsellor I would describe myself as eclectic, although heavily influenced by both person-centred and existential theory. I believe the promotion of education to be one of the most valuable components of therapeutic encounters, and, that helping clients to cultivate autonomy and self-care, through education, is perhaps one of the most crucial aspects of my therapeutic work.

Reflexology is a powerful, deeply relaxing touch based complementary intervention, primarily involving the feet. Research recommends reflexology for stress and anxiety, acute pain and lymphatic drainage. Another demonstrated outcome in reflexology relates to an increase in local perfusion (blood flow) to specific areas and organs of the body.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Counselling and would describe my practice as 'eclectic' in nature. This means I am familiar with a variety of theoretical counselling models, i.e. humanistic, existential, CBT, and work with, often a combination of models most appropriate for the client's individual requirements.

Counselling

Auricular Acupuncture

  • BA (Hons) in Counselling (2012)
  • Advanced Diploma in Hypnotherapy (2007)
  • Comprehensive Diploma in Auricular and Electro-Acupuncture (2006)
  • ITEC Diploma in Reflexology (2006)
  • Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Founder of Relational Reflexology (Education)

I began my life as a therapist in 2005, initially training in CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine), before going on to train as a counsellor, in 2007.

Auricular (or ear) acupuncture is a specialist complementary therapy involving either sterile, disposable needles, or sometimes electro-acupuncture. The ear is considered as a micro-system of the body, and peppered with scores of acupuncture points, each related to specific organs or TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) systems of the body.

Simply put, electro-acupuncture involves using small electric currents to stimulate muscles and nerves. The practice is also referred to as percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or PENS. Electro-acupuncture can be incredibly useful in managing neck and back pain, chronic headaches and migraine, and symptoms relating to fibromyalgia.

Professional Bio

I believe supportive therapies should be accessible to as many people as possible, and so costs within my practice are kept to a minimum.
